We wanted to connect a webcam using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) to a computer to stream to Facebook Live. We first tried Startech's USB to Ethernet converter. It sent video and audio, but only worked well at lower resolutions. The Startech device only had USB 2 and drove a webcam, but we needed Full HD resolution. Also, the Startech device had to be on the same VLAN (subnet) as the computer it is connecting to, although the device's IP address could be specified. Does not cross subnets. On the other hand, the Silex DS-600 converter has a USB 3 port and if we connect the same camera through it, we can transfer Full HD from our webcam (Logitech camera) to the client computer and it behaves 100%. No departures, no problems. Also, we found that we can traverse subnets with Silex, which is a bonus for us. Silex also has a second USB port (albeit USB 2.0) which is great for connecting other devices like a USB microphone. This has been tested and works well. Note that both products stream video to OSB without any complaints as if their webcam was local to the computer. We tried several IP cameras for this but could not get them to work for this application. Silex DS-600 gets a lot of approval from us!
