Important tips!

I spent about 8 hours getting this device working. Everything was set up correctly and print jobs were queued, but nothing printed. I tried this on 2 different printers. Including QMS 1250W and Dell A960 printer. Frustrated, I called Linksys support. The first thing the support rep told me to do was hold the reset button for 3-5 seconds. It should print the configuration details including the IP address. If it doesn't print, it means the device doesn't support your printer! how easy is it Why…

Good if you have a good wind and know what you are doing

This unit works for me. There are no problems with printer detection. I had a few issues connecting to my Linksys wireless network, but it was just a matter of using the correct key sequence. As with every Linksys device I've ever purchased, the setup utility on the CD wasn't able to identify the device on the network so I had to set it up manually through the web interface, but after about an hour it worked and continued to print my HP Laserjet 1100 parallel printer. Speed is ok, range is not…

Stable after tuning.

If you have Windows 7, it can be difficult to set up as it is clearly designed for Windows XP and older operating systems. I haven't been able to get the auto setup from the install disk to set it up properly. I was able to load the drivers normally and then had to manually tweak the installation. If you have Windows 7, check out some of the forums on the Linksys/Cisco website that discuss using this product on Windows 7. Despite this guide, the setup was difficult as I had to set up two…

Excellent - Easy to install and use.

I don't know what some people are talking about here. I installed the print server and was up and running wirelessly in less than an hour (start to finish). I think most people expect this product to do what it wasn't designed to do - it's only used for printing (computer-to-printer communication) -- not for other multi-function tasks (which require printer-to-computer communication). . This is a limitation of current technology, not of this product. The user guide clearly states that this…

Steep learning curve

My conditions: I am new to networking but have a lot of experience with computer programs, hardware and electronics. Otherwise I have no home network. Wanted to set up ad hoc - 2 computers (1 wireless, 1 ethernet) and 1 printer. It took a long time to learn how to set it up, but that's largely due to my inexperience in the area. The first issue the support team couldn't solve was that I needed a crossover cable for a custom setup. No mention in manual for quick or long version. Then there is a…

Works as advertised

Found all the previous reviews helpful. I am using a server connected to my network (not wifi) with an HP LaserJet on a parallel port and printing from 2 XP Prof computers on the network. The CD installer failed to save at the end so I had to switch to the web interface as we learned from previous failed installations of the Linksys product. Follow the instructions in the user manual on the CD to complete the setup through this interface and both computers will print without any problems. For…

Does what I want, good for print servers

I bought this to expand my network and put the printer in a room with no computer or network. Works - custom software on PC works. I couldn't get the WEP protection to work (it only supports the old version of the standard). Initially I connected it to two printers: HP LJ 5p via parallel port and HP Photosmart 1100 via USB. Both worked fine. The parallel port feature was the reason I bought it, most devices are USB only these days. I don't have talkback (so I can't see toner levels, ink levels,

Deodorant does not work as advertised; Very disappointed

First of all I have to say that I am NOT new to technology/hardware. No way; I'm the first person people call when their computers need maintenance. Each of the computers in my house was built by me. So you can understand it was quite frustrating when I couldn't get this thing to work even after playing around with it for a good 3-4 hours and even calling tech support (never had to ask tech support for help). ).in a setup in my life for every other hardware I own). This product simply does NOT…

NOT the best option for plug and play print servers

After a BIG effort I was able to get this print server to work. I installed it with HP Officejet 6110xi. The main problem here is the printer drivers. It doesn't like all-in-one drivers for some reason, so you'll have to use a generic one. At first I was told that I only need the driver for printing, but after downloading it I was unable to add the printer and get it to use the driver I downloaded. Much easier to use generically. I called HP and found what driver it was in minutes and it was…
