Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Brother MFC-J6930DW: All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer with Wireless Connectivity, Duplex Printing, and Amazon Dash Replenishment Ready by Gerald Munajj

Loud grinding noise (plastic gear?) after two days of scanning.

SCAN: When using the drivers and software from the supplied CD, scan sizes larger than A4 did not appear in the PC menu. Called the hotline and didn't understand why. Higher level help sent for later call back (pending). Subsequent downloading and reinstalling the full software/driver package from the Brother website did not change the paper size menu items. Dimensions A3 / 11x17 were not shown. The Brother software has already reinstalled the latest software/driver I downloaded (and is now allowing fax drivers to be installed that I don't need and weren't originally installed). Large paper sizes are now shown in the menu below the size selector. After scanning documents for several hours over two days, the device began to emit a harsh but not loud "rumble" that sounded like plastic gears. Now on the third day of scanning, the device is very noisy, a confusing noise that sounds like an impending failure. Having scanned thousands of documents with the previous MFC-6430 with no errors, this is disappointing. The MFC-6430 was dropped due to a connected printhead (as was the subsequent Epson WF-7620), not due to a drive/gear failure (which I believe happens after hours of scanning). Duplex scanning made easy! A big plus that eliminates a potential misfeed that could be an issue on the above two devices when the paper condition wasn't ideal. The scan quality is very good. No misfeeds on plain paper (except thin, glossy magazine paper, but even then that's impressive and forgivable for some misfeeds, which are unlikely to be part of the device's design criteria). And the ADF scanning was so quiet!, . with the device, just out of the box. PRINT: Only test prints so far, but prints quickly and with good results. Louder than Epson. COST: The price is really amazing (low) for these devices (including the ones previously mentioned) but as usual I'll pay for it with the ink purchase. If I decide that the new hiss and noise level is "a feature" rather than an imminent ADF pick/transfer failure, I will keep the printer.
