My kids got 2DS systems for Christmas 2 years ago. I got my son a new 3DS for Black Friday last year but never got it because I see conflicting information about whether 3D is good for younger children's eyes. I know you can disable it in parental controls but that never happened. So I sold that system on Craigslist and bought him this 2DS XL. He loves to. He thinks it's as good as my 3DSXL but cooler. All day he says he can't believe I gave him a good one while I'm still using the old one. I didn't get it from Revain because Revain wasn't selling it when I checked. After playing around with it a bit, it's holding up better than my new 3DS XL. The new 3DS XL isn't much heavier, but it is heavier (the top screen is heavier on the 3DS XL). The 2DS XL feels good in the hand and is easy for a 10-year-old to hold. The screens are as sharp as my 3DSXL. They are still low resolution screens like all 3DS/2DS systems. Because XL systems have larger screens, low resolution on XL sizes looks blockier compared to smaller 2DS/3DS systems. As I now play a lot of handheld games on my Switch at 720p, this becomes even more evident. It's not a big deal and the games are more than playable, but if you're new to 2DS/3DS this will be one of the first things you'll notice. The only thing worse than my new 3DS XL is that the sound isn't as loud or good. I'm a parent so I'm not complaining that the audio doesn't get louder. But when you are an adult you will want to know. A really great improvement is that the SD card and game cartridge are under one flap. They're also easy to change, but you won't lose them. We drove through the airport with my kids while walking with our 2DS systems in hand. Suddenly, my daughter's 2DS shot out a Pokemon cartridge! Several times we almost lost cartridges from 2DS systems! It might seem like a small thing, but I think the cover over the slots makes a big difference. The buttons click perfectly. The size is great. I like that the screens are attached with a clip. We received protective films for both screens. The hinge seems pretty solid so my son should use it unless he abuses it. I am very happy with it and he is very excited. He plays it all day in Pokemon Moon and says it's faster than his 2DS. (Not all games are faster on the new 3DS/2DS, but Moon is faster - thanks for your comment, Azazel!) I think the Switch will be both a Nintendo handheld and a console system and I'm very happy with it, because it is a significantly better system (HD, top games etc.). But there are still many great games for the 3DS/2DS. I think this is perfect for my son right now. We are very happy with it and can really recommend it!
