No longer than the regular staples I bought at the grocery store. I thought it was longer (I confess I didn't really take the measurements into account, I just read "long turkey buster"). So I wasn't too impressed with this title. I use this for spot cleaning my smaller aquariums and wanted something that would save me the hassle of constantly putting my hands in the water. Anyway, in an emergency, when it sucks it doesn't leak too much - it really does hold it until you push it out, and it's easy to control so if you want to let a little out - which helps a lot with the debris to eliminate my sandy bottom pool. Also, the nozzle is thinner/sharper, making it easier to hit corners, plants, and decorations.
