I hope I never have to verify that it works but it's well tested and I feel a lot better having a detector that doesn't require battery replacement every six months. It has a solid construction, is easy to install and has a fairly loud alarm. I bought two and am in the process of buying two more to replace the old ones around the house. The local fire department says it's best to use photoelectric detectors because they detect a smoldering fire before it develops into a full-blown blaze. Excellent goods.
