It's bothered me so much that now that I have it I want everyone else to know that I don't. I was able to view SMART data using CrystalDiskInfo, GSmartControl, and Speccy (By the way, Sabrent's USB 3.0 version, EC-SSHD, also supports SMART data). If your favorite utility doesn't report SMART data for a particular drive, try a different one. . GSmartControl is sometimes unable to report SMART data for an adapter attached drive, while CrystalDiskInfo and Speccy have always been able to in my experience. I like GSmartControl because it also reports the SMART error log, which the other two don't as far as I can tell, and it can run self-tests on a connected drive. Another reviewer, D.Scott, said that the higher USB-C adapter's transfer rate was extremely slow. It wasn't like that for me either. I tested transfer speeds for inexpensive SSDs using CrystalDiskMark and the 1GB sequential transfer speeds for both connections were about the same - between 463MB/s and 563MB/s reading and 409MB/s and 416MB/s writing . Running the tests a second time often gave better results for some reason. Ironically, two of my three USB-C tests showed much lower write speeds of 169MB/s and 183MB/s, but they're still a lot faster than the claimed 35MB/s. by DScott. My guess is that these lower write speeds had something to do with the SSD not being trimmed, which would mean the data blocks CrystalDiskMark was writing had to be erased first. One of my USB-C tests showed a write speed of 409MB/s, and all three showed high read speeds (actually slightly faster than my USB-3 tests), so I know the adapter can transfer data at that speed. RND4K Q1T1 Write tests were the only ones consistently slower over USB-C than USB 3, at around 7.5MB/s versus around 40MB/s. But just for the record. I don't know enough to point out whether this is an adapter error, a driver error, or something else. According to TRIMcheck, this adapter doesn't seem to support TRIM commands. From what I've read, very few SATA to USB adapters will fit. The StarTech USB312SAT3CB is reported to support TRIM (I don't have it so can't confirm) but I like the design of the Sabrent adapter more and I rarely use these adapters with SSDs so it doesn't have TRIM support my top priority. .I am very satisfied with both this adapter and the Sabrent USB 3.0 (EC-SSHD) version. I like the slim design, slim high-visibility activity light, and long 23-inch cord. I used my old Sabrent EC-SSHD adapter to make my own external drive by making a faux leather case that houses the drive and adapter and has a cutout in the corner for an activity light. I've never had a problem with the adapter (although I've only had this USB 3.1 EC-SS31 model for a few days, so haven't used it much yet). By the way, the activity indicator is not in the corner shown in the product photo. It must be an old design or something like that. The top of the adapter (the side with the Sabrent logo) faces you and the cable faces away from you. , the light is in the right corner, not the left as in the photo, this was important to me because I wanted the activity light cutout in my case to be compatible with both adapter models.
