Review on Universal Black A/C Valve Core Remover/Installer by MASTERCOOL - Model 58490 by Jeff Bundrick

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Doesn't work well on a 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

Good quality tool and kit but had to give 3 stars because it didn't really do what it was designed to do. The valve on the top of my 2001 Ford Expedition was too large to fit cleanly through the ball valve on this tool. It stuck, so I was left with a pressurized tool with an M10 high-pressure valve stuck in the tool's ball valve. It must have moved because I couldn't get the tool to grab the M10 valve to screw it back in, so I still had to go to the trouble of evacuating and rebuilding the system. What I thought was a 10 minute job turned into 3 hours. The M8's underside valve had its own problems. The tools are too long. You will need rubber hands to manipulate the valve on the low pressure side as the tool will actually bump against the engine. It would be better with their $10 hand tool. I also think that there are no good descriptions for these sets. I originally ordered another Mastercool kit (standard and JRA) which was half the price based on the Revain description and customer reviews, but found it didn't fit the Ford. I had to send it back and pay more than double for this kit lest it let me down. A lot of time wasted and frustrated over something that should have been easy to fix. However, I will say that the quality of this tool is excellent and it will probably work for 99% of all uses. It just didn't work for my 1%. Update: I just saw that another reviewer had the same issue as me with the valve sticking. Eliminate that problem and offer shorter shafts and this tool set is perfect.
