Our dogs love to fool around in our garden at night and the border is barking. We placed her on both sides of the house so she doesn't bark where the neighbors can hear her. It works surprisingly well, she doesn't wake anyone up at night anymore. We plugged them into automatic timers from dusk to dawn: my husband bought kits to plug them in so we don't have to use batteries - they plug directly into the timer. I wish they came from the seller like this, which means you don't have to switch on and off or change batteries every day! If you're buying dusk-to-dawn timers for the same setup, make sure it's one with a MANUAL setting - digital dusk-to-dawn timers tend to reset to something else when power is removed to any one time is switched on or off. You want to manually select the twilight setting so it always stays there, even if the power goes out for a while.
