Review on πŸš— Custom 4-Pin Vehicle-Side Trailer Wiring Harness by CURT for Ford Explorer - Model 56172 by Robby Fingaw

Works great but consider buying 56278

I originally bought this for my 2015 Ford Explorer to tow my new FlagStaff 206LTD retractable camper. Make sure you check the type of plug in your trailer, or that you plan to unplug it, before purchasing this. I have found that many newer trailers like my RV come with a 7 pin plug and this is a 4 way static plug. Other trailers still use the 4-way trailer, as does my neighbor's boat trailer. I wanted something that would both work with 7-way and easily adapt to 4-way if my neighbor needs help. In order for this item CURT 56172 to work with a 7-pin connector, you must also purchase a CURT 57184. Instead I removed it and replaced it with a CURT 56278 and bought a CURT 57240 adapter plug. This leaves the harness completely hard-wired for a 7-pin connector. Plug but allows me to scale down to 4 if needed. It's a bit cheaper if you go this route than the other. Each of these allows you to tow trailers with 4 and 7 connections. Always remove this adapter when not in use. That way no one will steal it and/or it won't fall out while driving. I am happy with my purchase but ended up replacing it with another from the same manufacturer.

  • connectors
Cons
  • cable is shorter than other options
