- Easy to use, small size, great results, moderate price. The worst thing about the ELPH 310HS (or IXUS 230HS) is the name. Canon sells a very different camera in the US called the SX 230HS. Ordering a camera or batteries becomes a test of your ability to spell Canon's awful nomenclature. There are reviews of this camera that incorrectly refer to it as the ELPH 230HS! Buy a couple of extra batteries from Revain (NB-4L) for $10 each (get the pump type 1200). Do not buy the NB-5L battery pack. for 230HS. The $6 Case Logic TBC-302 holds two extra batteries and a camera quite well. In Auto mode you get good videos and great photos. The best part is that you get these results without having to mess with your camera settings. Switching to "P" mode gives you more options and settings, but if you just want great results leave it on "Automatic". When taking a picture, press the Exposure button Β½ down to focus. When the focus point turns green, press the button all the way down. Focusing typically takes less than Β½ second. If you just push the button all the way down, you often get a blurry image. Forgetting focus might explain why some reviewers are unhappy with the camera's output. There are both pros and cons to this method of focusing. You just need to know how to work with 310.11 x 14 borderless prints, which excel when shooting in good light. The quality drops in darker situations, but remains acceptable. All small touch cameras exhibit this behavior. Face recognition works most of the time. The prices are a bit strange. At the time of writing, the price ranges from $196 to $230 for the same camera from the same manufacturer, depending on the color. Why does a blue copy cost 15% more than a purple copy? It was probably the same genius that gave the camera its name! The ELPH 310HS is a great travel camera. I ordered a second one for my wife.
