I grew up with cappuccino. My mother is very picky about her coffee, she ONLY likes espresso and crema. She says a real cappuccino has just that little bit of silky thick milk between the espresso and the froth. One thing I struggled with a lot when I had the espresso maker and milk steamer combo was that it could never produce "microfoam". (It's incredibly velvety thick foam, but not BIG BUBBLE foam, that's what latte art is made of.) This amazing little device lets you do just that. It's just a matter of technique. Some reviews mention durability issues. Yes, the glass is thin. But we handle them with care (we never put them on a rack with other dishes, for example) and we never hit the piston rod on the ground. This is not difficult, because if you do everything right, you will still not fall to the ground. Other reviews mention rust so I waited over a month before posting this review. It just didn't happen to us, but we'll take care of it. I rinse the flask IMMEDIATELY after use before placing the glass bowl in the microwave. If you want to get as much foam and microfoam as possible, I recommend soaking for longer than the instructions say. I usually go down 1/2 or 2/3 of the way into the milk before getting back up and probably going down 45+ seconds. It's not a workout at all, it's a very simple movement without much resistance. If you're doing everything right, the milk should rise about halfway between the MAX line and the peak. I also microwave for more than 30 seconds because it helps create more foam - you'll see it rise in the microwave. I do about 45-50 seconds but no more or it can go beyond that. At the bottom there will be milk, which doesn't necessarily have to be microfoam, and if I really fancy a dry lid I just pour it out and switch. back to my cup when it comes to microfoam. We definitely love this device, it's more than worth the money and gives the most delicious foam I've ever tried.
