We purchased these tongs to replace our previous pair when the silicone grips began to crack and peel. We are very impressed by the weight. These are strong pliers that should last a long time, much heavier than our previous pair. The steel spring is strong and the tongs connect without hesitation as they should to keep food safe. The oak handles are well made, although like all the raw woods on our utensils we treated them with board cream before first use to keep them from drying out and splintering. We believe this is especially important for grill tools due to the high heat of the grill. The locking mechanism is just as well constructed as the rest of the pliers. The only problem, and a small one, is the length. If they were about an inch longer, they would be perfect. But they work well and do their job. They are much nicer than the $12.95 we paid led us to believe. If Mr. Grill will release a longer model with the same design, we are happy to update it.
