This is an amazing product, especially for nail art enthusiasts like me who sometimes like to let their design run wild. I used an old piece of cardboard or similar material to hold, dilute or blend the paint. I didn't buy a palette because I wanted something I wouldn't have to clean up afterwards and throw away. The paint also dries much quicker on cardstock, but because these rings have a small container-like bowl attached to them, the paint doesn't dry as quickly. In addition, you have the convenience of having the color very close to the nail. I throw away the rings after use, which saves me the annoying cleaning drill. These rings are perfect for me. love this product!
