structured? Crumbly? Best in Primer

I couldn't show it in the pictures but I bought this product because it should mean I don't have to sand down the furniture before painting and I should do so for you to use it can spray paint onto finished wood without violating the integrity of the panel. Well maybe my batch was bad, maybe my can was old - I'm not sure. But first I tried it on a faux wood table (no sanding) and the surface came out unevenly textured. At first I thought, dammit! Perhaps the wood produced did not withstand this primer and the primer did not vinylate. Finding out later that this wasn't true, I sanded the surface to remove the texture and repainted the table (without this or any primer) - it came out smooth. In case anyone is wondering, I've found that if you're using an enamel paint, you don't need a primer for durable industrial wood. (Can't say this applies to industrial wood furniture made from compacted sawdust.) The second time I used this primer, I used it on a plant stand that was part natural wood and part plastic. I did not sand any of the surfaces and wiped them down thoroughly and allowed to dry before applying. SURFACES REMAIN STRUCTURED. I will never use this product again. With engineered woods this doesn't seem to be necessary and I'd rather sand the surfaces than leave them feeling grainy and uneven.
