Review on πŸ”§ Oatey 39017 Sure-Vent Air Admittance Valve, 1.5" x 2", White by Steven Hanson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

They prevented the P-traps from being sucked out by putting them on top of other devices that weren't sucking!

It's a bit odd because I actually sent these valves back for an Oatey 39239 Sure Vent Air Admittance Valve 6 DFU installation kit with a white hose adapter (so I have all the hardware I needed right away), but that was a check on those valves that steered me in the direction I needed to move. We ended up in a new area where we didn't know many people and hired a bad general contractor to build our dream home. Ignoring the advice of a good plumber who told him there should be many more through-the-roof wet vents, he hired a plumber to do what he wanted and only installed three wet vents in our home. The vent tube of some fixtures had to travel 15 feet to get to the vertical wet vent tube, where they recommend no more than 5 feet of travel. When our washing machine or dishwasher was empty, it sucked water out of the shower and bath drains and then a strong sewage smell rose through them. We had to glue them on every time we used one of the washers. Neither a plumber nor any website I could find would tell me that adding these vents to the same venting system, but not to a fixture with a P-trap siphon or any fixture that causes siphoning (shims) to do so will help stop the suction. The only easy place to install them was under the sink and it worked! No more siphon and sewer odor!
