Review on Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM UD Lens: High-Quality Standard Zoom for Canon DSLR Cameras by Abhijit Abhijit ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Performs its functions, nothing unusual.

Those who admire "sharpness" most likely switched from unintelligible whale glasses (and corny have no experience with good lenses (not to mention top ones)), alas . no offense :) I took a slightly damaged Tamron to replace it, and at first I generally thought that I got a defective copy, the difference between the faster and cheaper 17-50 from Tamron_a was so visible. I tried a few more copies, but in the end the seller went forward and agreed to exchange with an additional payment for 17-40 / 4 (although according to the ZoZPP he could not do this). Tested at 50D, the lens showed its capabilities at the "so-so" level. The funny thing is that in most cases (we are talking about "everyday"), these are glass + cropped cameras from Canon, for which this model is made, will calmly and unobtrusively "make as standing" most modern smartphones (at a much lower price). Street with different lighting, studio light, flash. everywhere :( It can be relatively in demand among landscape painters, where with a good plot / plan it can still "beat" its kind of blurry-softness. Really, my Xiaomi Note 4x gives a picture with noticeably better detail, and costs almost 1/3 of the price of this lens. Yes, it’s impossible to work with a file from a smartphone in the same PS, but how many “ordinary users” of modern “mass” DSLRs do this? In general, it’s better to take either Tamron, or save up and (for example) 17-40. The quality of the picture (it is clear that without processing) will differ quite noticeably. P. S. Even the ancient Industar 61 LZ "does" this model :) (if we discard manual focus and fix on the focal length, i. E. exactly on the picture). P. P. S. It may be relatively in demand for those who need a stabilizer.

Pros
  • If only "solid" (relatively) appearance. Well, perhaps a metal mount.
Cons
  • Price. Picture quality. Changing aperture at different focal lengths. Soaps, sharpness (for such a price) is not.
