I recently started brewing beer at home and decided to buy a refractometer to measure the total sugar content of the wort. To find out how much I can trust this instrument, I prepared several sugar solutions with known Brix values and measured them with a refractometer. The instrument turned out to be much more accurate than I expected, provided its calibration was carefully checked before each measurement. The instrument is recalibrated with the supplied screwdriver and a few drops of tap water. Please refer to the attached image for more instrument rating details. My apologies for the poor quality of the images, but it's quite difficult to photograph through the eyepiece of a refractometer with a mobile phone. The image you see with your own eyes is easy to focus (the eyepiece rotates to focus) and gives you more accurate measurements than photos.
