Too high accuracy, erratic readings and no warranty support

Mine worked for 4 months but then several LED lines went out making you think you have readings but they are inaccurate. For example, what should read as 3/4 inch is 7/4 inch because the bottom two lines of the number 3 are not displayed. The manufacturer's website was down for maintenance in the last 3 months. I just decided to throw it in the trash and buy an old fashioned manual caliper. LED issue aside, I've actually found that 1/128 inch accuracy does more harm than good for my applications. You cannot cut wood above 1/16" with great precision, and even measuring pipes, bolts, etc. usually gives 1/64" or 1/128" fractions that don't match your order details. Finally, there are 112 out of 128 possible readings that are accurate to better than 1/16 inch, so even the smallest indentation in an object or corner of the instrument will give one of those readings. And I'm just not fast enough in math. to find out if 113/128 or 57/64 inches is probably just 7/8 inches or a little more. Or, if I want to add two readings like 39/128 and 11/64, it's better to just reduce it down to 1/2 inch and be done with it.

Pros
  • Check, measure and check
Cons
  • Expensive
