While I like this holder MUCH more than any other I've used, I think it probably depends a lot on what car/dashboard you have. You'll need a fairly flat surface to place this that won't block your view of the road. However, I really don't like looking down or too far to the side to see my navigation and it keeps everything in my line of sight! Very stable even when fixed on a slightly rounded surface. I tried inserting a long-armed cup holder, but still had to look down and away from the road. Maybe it's the pilot in me, but the cup holders are too far from where we're supposed to be looking and such that the suction cups on the windshield always block at least SOME of the view ahead. I use my vents far too often to love this holder for long. I thought long and hard before posting where I did, but in my Civic it makes a lot of sense. I block the tach but I still hear the car shifting and if something bothers me I can put my phone down to see what's going on.
