Good price for computer accessories and peripherals

I have a problem installing the software. I don't like installing software unless it's necessary and often use a spare computer for testing. This camera came with a notice that I had to install the software BEFORE connecting the camera for the first time. I did this on my spare computer and it worked fine. First I connected the camera to my main computer. The camera works fine without software, but the software that comes with it is good, so I tried installing it. It wouldn't let me and told me "The installation cannot proceed because the downloaded file is not digitally signed by Microsoft. Please try again later." So I downloaded the LifeCam software version from the Microsoft website and was able to install it. Later I had problems syncing the audio with the picture. To fix the problem I had to do the Uninstall software go into device manager and uninstall the camera drivers (which installs when you just plug in the camera) then i installed the software first then the camera now the audio sync problem has been fixed i can't say with certainty that one of these problems is related to connecting the camera before the software, maybe they will tell you that you need to install the software first because they are afraid that you will never install the software if you find out you can don't need it. LifeCam software allows you to capture video and save it as a .wmv file.. It's easier than using it g of a camcorder because you can play back your recording immediately without first having to transfer the file to your computer. I had a problem with the sound synchronization with this function. My computer is a 3GHz quad core computer, so computer speed doesn't matter. When I was looking for a solution to my audio sync problem, I found that unless your computer is fast, you can't record in higher resolution modes. Basically I am very satisfied with the camera. I mainly use it for Skype. The first thing that happened was that the person I was speaking to on Skype complained that the picture "jumped". What happens is that the autofocus tries to stay in focus and when it moves the focus the field of view changes a bit. I disable autofocus for exactly this reason and also because it sucks in general. Most of the time it's blurry. You can even see it sucks in the Microsoft demo video they made (on YouTube). One problem is that it doesn't remember that I don't want to use autofocus. I have to turn it off every time I restart my computer. Image quality can be very good in good light. The camera works well in low light (there is enough light, but the quality of the images is not very good). In good light you can see that the limiting factor is the quality of the lens. A more expensive lens would improve the image somewhat. Most people won't notice. There is a button on the camera. When you click the button, the Microsoft version of Skype (Windows Live Messenger) will open automatically. I haven't installed it. One day while using Skype I removed the camera from the monitor to aim the camera across the room and accidentally pressed the button which disconnected Skype. The built-in microphone also works quite well. the ability to get more than 640x480 when using Skype. My internet download speed is around 1.2Mbps which is the lower limit for 1280x720 on Skype. I have not skyped anyone with download speeds like this and maybe both people need fast internet. In the near future everyone will skype at 1280x720 and this camera will get the job done - if you have enough processing power. I'm glad I chose this camera and I don't regret it. Don't buy it from BestBuy unless you're willing to pay 70% more. I want to say shame on you marketers who decided to create a 5x HD photo mode. In this mode, you can take a 1280x720 photo and convert it to 2880x1620. This accomplishes two things. It wastes space on your hard drive, making your files much larger (for no good), and it allows marketers to advertise 5 megapixels. you guys suck.

Pros
  • Precise glass lens for clear images
Cons
  • No insurance
