I bought some catch and release traps that worked reasonably but many of the smaller critters (voles, chipmunks, etc.) could eat all the bait and squeeze out the side. ) As the gaps were too big I decided to modify the cages. I cut out sheet metal to line the bottom, and cut pieces of the mesh to line the sides of cage. I was considering trying to spot weld this, but decided it was a bit too awkward and going to take too long. Instead I just cut it to fit, pushed it into place and tie strapped it securely in place (see pictures.) I used tin snips to cut everything, and it made easy work of the cuts. Whether I use the cage indoors or outdoors, or washing it off I don't got to worry about it rusting. The 304 stainless steel mesh is hefty and durable, but still easily pliable to bend as needed.
