Purchased for 2004 Volkswagen GLS. This car has had multiple owners and an auction house (thanks - CarFax). Maybe there was overheating or due to age all the plastic under the hood is very brittle. The original plastic tube of the dipstick was cracked in two places. This replacement pipe finally prevents dirt from getting into the crankcase! If you find yourself in a similar situation, plug the tube with a paper towel, remove/peel away any remaining yellow plastic, wipe the crankcase bracket inside and out as clean as possible. Center the lower end and with a light tap of a hammer the new tube will snap into place on the crankcase port. My car had a metal bracket on the top end that I used. Much luck!
