Review on 🕰️ Artisanal Elegance: Abong Handcrafted Mechanical Wooden Pendulum by Marlin Atonyo

First of all, assembling this set requires patience. In total it took about 60 hours to produce the working condition you see in the photo and video. Yes, the kit will work and last a long time if you take the time to build it well. If you only plan a couple of hours to assemble this watch you can avoid this kit and disappointment. The outside of the box says the difficulty is 'Expert' but if they fixed some issues this set is indeed a medium difficulty, please read on. There are many problems with Abong Clock. First, all dowels are much smaller than the laser cut holes they fit into. The larger and longer dowels are too small for the laser cut holes in the clock base. The large pins for the gear shafts are shorter than necessary, so you will need to adjust the clock to account for this issue. To fix this I unscrewed some brass caps to attach the outer bezel to the watch (two arcs). The brass caps also made it easy to remove the outer frame and remove the gears later. It also helped hide the fact that the transmission shafts were shorter than required. I used as little glue as possible and didn't use wood glue as it tends to warp the wood due to its water content. To assemble the clock I used only 15 minutes epoxy and super thin cyanoacrylate (superglue). I also had to make a new trigger hub as it didn't work with the wooden hub parts that came with it (oversized holes in parts, same parts, lots of wobbling). Other shafts required adapters and bushings to be made to properly fit the shafts and reduce backlash between the gears. Oversize for shafts (keys) is provided. I used a drop of very thin CA to harden the ends of all the gear teeth. Putting a drop on each tooth and letting it sit and harden overnight worked really well. The gears are cut from thin plywood, they are very fragile and break easily. This is a big problem with the escapement as the teeth are very thin and need to maintain a specific shape. Once the trigger teeth are well hardened they can be smoothed out so they slide in and out smoothly. If this doesn't happen, the pendulum picks up the vibration and loses much of its strength due to the falling weight. I also needed additional pendulum weight and made a 3" brass pendulum weight with 8-32 threads to replace the light screw travel, the screw does not provide the necessary weight to keep the clock running on time. The clock MUST be hung so that the hour and minute hands are even and level. If this is not the case, the watch will slowly lose momentum and stop running. This is due to the angle of the trigger lever meshing with the trigger gear. Enough time and effort to it is a good clock that works well shows time well and makes a nice 'tic toc' sound.sent out the door maybe they will fix the kit.If the manufacturer fixes these issues it will be a fantastic little one Clock out of the kit that works fine if you follow the instructions that came with it ok better than most but ZERO about recording issues with this clock if you have any problems here is t the problem of the clock not being plumb and level on the hour and minute hands is very important.
