Where to start? It's bright but glaring and doesn't project the light very well. A few times I've had a green laser shine directly in my face ( yes, the starlight effect only runs a green laser through a splinter) Getting the glow effect on the ceiling and not your face is an exercise in how well you can tilt the device with the box it came in, old shirts. anything to keep them out of your face. not that easy to understand. They're not "bad" but they're bare bones. Most of the understanding of how this thing works was just playing around with it. Once you set it up, don't shine a light in anyone's face and the room is dark enough to enjoy, it's not too bad.The swirling light effect is cool and the color combos (though few) are pretty nice. It's quite noisy and the star dimmer (laser lights) is quite "clunky" and basically turns on/off with very little dimming (this is actually the setting where the laser lights "turn on and off". You should dim between cycles/shutdown (actually it isn't) If you're getting this as a gift make sure it's for someone or people you don't know very well or really care about, most likely it will thrown away or donated.
