Complete newbie here - good starting price but some issues

I received this - my first watercolor set since Crayola - last week. I use them daily and attend tutorials, paint, practice smudging with different brushes etc. I have used them with appropriate 140#/300g cold pressed paper, medium paper and lighter sketch paper. The color selection is awesome, although I just mix like Crayola I can recommend other beginners to start with a little less than 48 colors. If I had to do it all over again I would buy a nice classic 12 color set. These colors are very light and the opacity is a surprise. You can get a thick slurry of these and they will feel almost like acrylic on paper. But. I don't think it's supposed to work that way, and I say that because these colors often refuse to behave like watercolors in tutorials or illustrated walkthroughs. through sight and touch. Instead of the beautiful, mysterious matte watercolor finish I admire, these colors appear muddy and chalky on paper. Almost everything, especially yellows, browns and reds. Blue and green also have that flat chalk tone, but it's less pronounced. I do not regret buying these colors. Inexpensive and vibrant, they've allowed me to dive into those first disastrous happy mistakes while learning the basics of how watercolor paints work. If I had to do it again I would pay a little more and go to a higher level. There is a nice watercolor artist on YouTube who talks about the difference between good student paint and poor quality paint that "gets in the way". My painting doesn't match the tutorial because I have a bad technique or because the paint doesn't behave like theirs. If money is a major barrier to getting started, then by all means grab this palette and go for it. I'm having so much fun learning to draw with them, but I'll be replacing them as soon as I can justify buying a new one.
