The headguard is a good idea if you want to do things like skinny or other technical features because it encourages you to try more knowing you won't mess up your sprocket if/if you make a mistake. The same goes for knee pads. It is "plastic courage” that will help you improve your driving technique. I have used shoes from another company but when I came across Funn's Zippa Lite for significantly less money and with great reviews I decided to give it a try. I found it just as well made, easy to install, and you get a spare skid plate as a bonus. I broke one of these on a really difficult technical descent, so I appreciate having a spare. Since then I've mounted them on the whole family's bikes. They are much cheaper than stars!
