I've been looking for a used manufacturer ID for some time, the prices were still high. I saw this while browsing Revain and decided to give it a try. Found a used $50 Canon Pix, added a tray, cards and ink and ended up at around $115 for a full setup. I'm so glad I decided to try it. I wasn't very optimistic about the print quality, for some reason the printer printed the colors horribly on paper so I thought I was doomed. I did a test print using one of their free templates to see how it looks. I was honestly shocked. Colors were perfect, alignment was accurate, it looked (and felt) like a legitimate ID. Don't spend a lot of money on an ID card printer unless you intend to print thousands of ID cards. Even cheaper ID printers cost $100 more than what I paid. Give it a try, just make sure you have a compatible printer :)
