Review on Koss SB40 Computer Headset with Built-in Microphone by Carl Higdem

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent for this money!

All in all this headphone was affordable and had amazing sound quality for value for money. I'd definitely recommend it if you're tired of other, more expensive headsets like the broken Triton Kunai, or just horrible overall. I have had both of these brands before and none compare to this one! My Triton Kunais gave way too much feedback, to the point where all my friends heard it was static when I turned up the volume for a game or background music. I especially hate Kunais because if you buy the $70 universal set from Gamestop, the mic mute switch only works with PS3 and I had to use them for PC. For less than $40, I'll never have to buy a computer headset again, and neither will you! They're backed by a LIFETIME GUARANTEE, which means as long as you don't knock them down or abuse them, if they break, send them back! I've done this with several Koss headsets and the process works pretty well and takes about 5 weeks on average. You only have to pay $9 for return shipping and sometimes they will waive that if you ask very nicely. So to the pros and cons of Pro's1. Very comfortable for extended use (sling-like headband) 2. Extra long cable 3. Deep bass (I was impressed) and clear highs (not tinny at all) 4. The microphone is accurate and doesn't pick up a lot of background noise 5. As for the speaker itself wise, a cheap gaming headset with decent sound you'll buy from Con's 1. They don't look cool (but who cares) 2. No mute switch (but most Steam games are push-to-talk or have a mute option in them ) 3. No USB power, use the old headphone and microphone jacks (this is normal but requires some configuration explained below). "Drivers" so that they use the default Realtek audio driver from your motherboard. Usually every Windows PC has the same driver (although the menu for this may vary slightly depending on your mobile device manufacturer). As soon as you plug it in the Realtek menu should appear, you need to do three things (all in the MIC tab above) 1. Check the noise reduction2. Check the Acoustic Echo Cancellation3 check box. Next to a volume slider, you'll see a small microphone icon to the right of it. Click on this icon (it will open what looks like another volume slider) and increase the microphone gain to +10dB. This will ensure that you are not heard in-game. You can ALSO do this from the Steam settings menu, and I recommend that you ALSO at least go into that menu and adjust your microphone settings there before playing a game.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Operating speed
