I have a LOT of cheap plastic quick release/quick release rod clamps that I use in his wood workshop. Most of them have very little holding power, except for the Jorgensen brand. But this clip is a completely different ratchet design that I've never used before. It has a TON of holding power. And it's all metal (aluminum alloy steel) with carbon steel rod. I posted a video showing how the clamp works. It's pretty intuitive to use. You manually move the moveable jaw into place, and then the handle and ratchet advance the plastic pad. You can watch the ratchet advance and then decide how much extra force you want to apply. If you blow too hard, the black trigger will be very difficult to move. I didn't bother with the video too much and it was still significantly tighter than most quick release rod clamps. The aluminum alloy parts are very well made, as is the steel bar. It's much heavier than regular aluminum. It seems extremely durable. The removable pads are made of fairly typical plastic, although not as soft as some. But still soft enough not to damage the wood. All moving parts run smoothly although I added a small amount of motor oil to all moving parts which helped. Overall I am very impressed with this clamp. The price tag is definitely there. But this is a very high quality solid metal lever clip with a TON of holding power. I have another Massca clip and overall I am very impressed with the build quality of the brand.
