(Best of the Best) Maxell High Bias XLll-S 100 vs TDK SA-X 100. I bought these audio cassettes and did a test to see which one is better and this is my opinion/conclusion: (a) Both bands are of solid construction and the mechanics are of excellent quality. The mechanism in the TDK is slightly better, the Maxell tape case is more durable. (b) The TDK tape case looks better but shows fingerprints. (c) In terms of performance, both offer great sound reproduction, the bass is tight and the mids and highs sound clear and powerful, there's no way to distort those bands, period. No actual measurements were taken, but as far as I can tell there's no real difference in sound quality. (Disputed) I personally think it depends on your cassette deck and personal preference. I used to have trouble balancing ur 90 minutes normally with Maxell. I threw in a few which stopped and were eaten. I keep cassette heads clean. My Sony cassette deck seems to work fine with all brands. Metallic bias aside, these are the best cartridges available, love them both and will be using them from now on!
