To be honest this is a GOOD slicer. I broke two of this type of plastic cutters sometime this week. The wire broke on one, the real plastic on the other. This metal wire with a spare wire (S!) seemed to solve those problems. It seemed premium for other cheese slicers in the $7-$10 range, but I'd love to read other reviews. The description says it comes with TWO SPARE CABLES. The truth is that it comes with ONE installed and ONE spare; TWO TOTAL. A "spare" in my opinion never includes one that served to make the product work. I can say the wire is of good strength and quality and a replacement is better than none. You can always tighten or adjust it with a Phillips or flathead screwdriver. Stainless steel seems strong, but it feels like a hollow one-sided cast, so it's not very secure to hold. It will get the job done, but I expected both sides to be the same. The disc-sized thumbscrew is easy to turn by hand for loosening and tightening, but can also be turned with a Phillips screwdriver. The pulley seemed secure enough for a couple of sheaves, but you can probably be safer if you don't put too much pressure on the adjustable pulley and let the wire do its job. I haven't washed it in the dishwasher but I have a feeling I'll do better. hand wash and dry; especially if the bottom is uneven. Conclusion: I'm not worried. I like the extra wire when I need it and I think it allows you to get thinner slices than other slicers of this type.
