Frustrating design flaws make it unsuitable for a bedroom

This air purifier might be great at cleaning the air, but it has some unfortunate design choices that break the deal. Due to its bright light in particular, it is unsuitable for use in the bedroom when people are sleeping. We bought this model in part because it has a light-off feature that turns off the main air quality indicator. The air quality light is really incredibly bright, so that's important. This feature isn't enough, however, as the smaller lights on the console remain on even when the lights-off feature is active. These indicator lights, which show the current fan speed, ionizer status, etc., are fairly bright on their own in a dark bedroom, bright enough to fill the room with white moonlight. We found it seriously disturbed our sleep. What's particularly absurd is that there's a bright white indicator light to show when blackout mode is active. That is, a bright light literally lights up, indicating that you don't need a bright light. I can't imagine what the product designers were thinking. The lights are built into the console and are not easily hidden. We tried covering them with duct tape, but each indicator light glows strongly, so covering the light itself is useless; much light leaks around the band. Covering the entire console with a shirt was the only way to stop the light. What I haven't mentioned yet is that the device will beep when you touch a button. So if you want to change the fan speed in the middle of the night, there will be a short beep to wake up your sleeping partner and let them know of the change. If you accidentally touch the power button, the device somehow overrides the lights-off setting and reactivates the blindingly bright main air quality display. Turn the device on or off and it will play a fun tune to make sure everyone is awake. These electronic sounds cannot be turned off or the volume reduced. For all these reasons, it is not advisable to use the device in a room where people are sleeping. A less unpleasant downside is that the device is very large and bulky. We got this unit because we prefer the tower form factor over the squat boxes that are popular these days, but this model absolutely puts other tower air purifiers we've had to shame. It is almost a meter high, almost a foot wide and square in shape. It's hard to imagine the size from the photos. Looks like he's about to eat my old Holmes Tower air purifier for breakfast. The device works great as an air purifier, so it might be a five-star device for those who don't mind light, noise, or bulkiness. But for us it was a terrible choice.
