Purchased for use with a proven Underkies Biofilter which does not require a very strong head as it is not the main aquarium filter. The performance is spot on in relation to the functionality of the underground filtration system - it doesn't generate a strong current to overwhelm the fish but just right for the filtration needs. Unfortunately this little head is useless if your undergravel filter uses standard 1" pipes (like most) as it is too small to securely seal the pipe opening! So, general use for generating light output, I would give it 5 stars - - it's more powerful than its tiny size would suggest Underground filter application 3 stars because the product description doesn't say it doesn't work with standard sized UGF UGF with smaller tubes in Aquariums up to 20 US gallons get enough power from this little powerhouse.
