Review on Lubricant for Cycling - Squirt Lube by Michael Clarke

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Complete mess, painful to apply, lube not amazing. Don't believe the ads.

Super disappointed in Squirt after reading all the hype and positive reviews. I wonder if I'm on another planet? Someone asked if I might have a fake bottle so I tried 3 bottles from different sources...no change. I was also asked if I cleaned the chains sufficiently before using them for the first time; The answer is yes. I used an ultrasonic cleaner with a degreaser and did 3 baths/cycles on each chain and then dried them completely. They were as clean as can be. My problem has two parts and the biggest problem is that the whole thing is incredibly messy. People say "no more fat black hands after touching my chain"... what the heck? All three chains/bikes I applied Squirt to came out sticky, black and sticky all over. I figured the wax in the squirt would dry harder than it does now. It remains fairly soft, like plasticine, and very sticky. Despite what the Squirt marketing materials say, the excess will NOT flake off while riding. Instead, it mounts to the derailleur pulleys, cassette, and sprocket. I went through a ton of shop towels trying to keep the transmission clean with the Squirt. I put new chains on about a month ago and gave up the squirt completely, and I'm still finding black, waxy goo stuck in my drive train. point neither. My drivetrain started making noise during a few hours of mountain biking, while the ProGold Xtreme, which I've been using for years (and have returned to), is quiet and clean for 4-5+ hours of mountain biking.
