I've been using Cascade dishwashing liquid for as long as I can remember, ever since I grew up using it. Cascade is efficient and reliable. However, Cascade smells disgusting! I have used powders, liquids and softgels (capsules for the last 6 years or so) and no matter what flavor I choose all my meals have a very strong, nauseous odor and aftertaste after using the capsules. It got to the point where I couldn't even use my cutting boards as the taste and smell bled into our food. I won't even go into the fact that some pods stuck together in the packaging and tore and then leaked. Or sometimes the gel pack stuck to the tray or hid in the bottom of the washing machine instead of dissolving, meaning I had to fish it out, throw it out, put in a new one, and run the washing machine again. Grrr. Also, when we moved into our new house which is by well water, my dishwasher and dishes started to get a very nasty, slightly "dirty" smell after using Cascade capsules. I started cleaning the sink AFTER running the dishwasher which is a complete headache, waste of time and money/water. There are very few unscented or "clear and clear" dishwasher capsules on the market and my research takes me back to the seventh generation. I didn't have high hopes for a mostly natural cleanser, but I gave it a try. Whoo! The pods are completely odorless and are a pure white powder. Without gel and colors. I have used the pods 3 times in the 3 days since they arrived and am a convert. I don't know how these unassuming little capsules hold so much wonder, but no matter how full the dishwasher is, what cycle I'm running, or what's in the dishwasher, my dishes will come out spotless. No haze or haze. My dishes are odorless and tasteless. There was no longer a strange smell in the car. These seventh generation capsules are just great. I didn't know I had it in me to get so excited about dish soap, but I'm really excited. I have already bought liquid dish soap to replace my trusty Dawn as well as other seventh generation household cleaners. I was so impressed. The real test of Seventh Generation products as a brand will be if/when I try their detergent instead of my favorite Tide Free & Gentle (small steps - haven't dared yet). While Seventh Generation isn't 100% natural, it's much greener and less toxic than my previous products, and because of the power and performance of these capsules, I'm happy to continue paying a little more money. What a find!
