I took a risk 2011 F-150 Installation

I wasn't sure if I should buy this camera after reading the reviews; I'm someone who likes to do a lot of research. The fact that it's flush mounted at 480 TVL made me take a chance as it's exactly what I needed/wanted. I hope the description is correct and they fixed the case fading issue, time will tell. I installed this in the tailgate handle on my 2011 F-150. I take it even if the camera says more. Although picture quality depends on the maximum TVL, it also depends on what monitor/screen you are viewing it on. I connected this camera with Auto-Vox rearview mirror with LCD screen here: AUTO-VOX Dual Video Inputs 4.3 inch Auto Dim Car Rearview Mirror for Toyota Honda Nissan Mazda Hyundai Kia Ford Pickup and most car models I used the same rear view mirror with LCD -Display for my hatchback. The reversing camera was fitted many months ago, it's a bit expensive but I was so pleased with its performance that I had to use it on a truck. For comparison, I installed an Esky camera on a hatchback. : Esky EC170-06 HD Color CCD Waterproof Car Rear View Camera Esky EC170-06, 0.86X0.65X0.50 inch (No Recommendation) Battery; The image becomes grainy and flickers when grounded to the chassis or connected to an existing ground. The idea is to use the same camera for the front and back. In addition, this camera may or may not have rails and also may or may not have a mirror image depending on whether it is the front or rear camera; and all with the help of a small piece of wire, which is absolutely brilliant! Coolint installation was as expected, it's a bit of a hassle to cut a hole in your car but they include the hole saw you need. I developed a plan of attack even before I trained; made sure the wires went through the back door, didn't bump into anything etc. I used a nail and hammer to mark my center for the hole saw drill and went to town. The trunk handle is plastic and a hole saw did a good job; it started to smoke a bit and I had to get creative to pull the plastic center off the hole saw after it was done so I could reuse it. The camera will fit snugly in the hole you've created, don't be surprised if you have to use a file or knife to widen the hole by a hair's breadth, and don't be afraid to push, it takes something Power. I LOVE that the red wire runs through the RCA cable. I used it as a power source and ran it to the front of the truck; I connected the camera to the switch, not the return cable. Here is the switch I used: Ulincosยฎ U16C2 1NO1NC SPDT ON/OFF Pushbutton Switch Black metal body with blue LED ring Fits 16mm mounting hole It has its own installation/wiring and I used the schematic they provided . Now the most important part; Picture. That's great! My other half, who doesn't care, noticed that my rear camera has a much better picture than a hatchback; this is coming from someone who didn't notice that i installed a soundbar with subwoofer on our tv for almost 2 days. I consider this camera an ultra wide angle camera as it looks like a fish eye to it. It can spin in all directions, but even with that ability, I can't point it down far enough to see my bumper. All in all I am very happy with this camera and the image it produces. It's surprisingly clear and detailed. Update: 5 out of 4 stars. The night vision is absolutely terrible, even though I don't have the brightest backup lights. It also gets very grainy. I haven't tested brighter reverse lights, but I think it might help. It's also a tad bright, even with the monitor completely turned off in the brightness it can appear washed out at times, not too surprised given that I live in the south where it's sunny most days. Update 09/16/16 The camera still works great. I can confirm that the case fading issue has been largely resolved. Most of the camera stays black but the ring around the camera lens is still copper BUT looking at the Esky rear view camera I have installed on my hatchback and the two DVRs I have I don't think that problems can be avoided because they all suffer from this problem; The case looks great, but the ring around the camera is copper.

Pros
  • NOTE: The original camera MUST be connected to the original wide voltage cable. Please DO NOT connect to other brands or manufacturers video cables to avoid unexpected damage.
