I've wanted some of these volume controlled LED lights for a long time since they first came out last year. The price was hard to justify at the time, and after ordering another pair that couldn't work without a network connection, as well as using a QR code that led to a weird secondary app that wasn't digitally signed by Apple, this would be the one case it for me. After ordering two Apple Silver Tone 32 LED models, the first thing that struck me was that they were lightweight. They also looked a bit small at first, but the quality was evident. The QR code, beautifully printed on a separate sheet of paper placed in the box, led to a simple digitally signed app on the Apple App Store. The app was clean and full-featured, with a very complete set of options including sound sensitivity, brightness, LED color theme and style, and LED response speed settings. All of this is available after the Bluetooth phone pairing process without a code, which quickly and automatically recognizes both displays. Because I'm interested in music and DJing, it's easy to see accurate volume readings in Logic Pro or Virtual DJ. Accurate volume levels could not be expected from these tubes, but after adjusting the sensitivity levels and using my monitor's speakers instead of the built-in iMacs, it was surprising that when they were placed about a foot either side of my iMacs, how close they arrived at accurate level measurements. Another thing is that at a brightness of 100, 32 LEDs were bright and bright. The flashlights came with a standard USB-C to USB cable that plugs into any 5 volt 1a charger which anyone reading this most likely already has. Charging took 6 minutes considering the LEDs arrived at 75% charge. There is a good solution that shows the charge level of the flashlight. This is a simple display of 4 green bars that will flash slightly at each step until each of the 4 bars is solid green. After that I used the cute black mini LED bulb holders that came with little pads inside to avoid scratching the sides of the bulbs. Once the LED lights were attached to the sides of my iMacs, it was musical heaven. I was wondering what I did without them, they look crisp and clean, the colors are represented well and they aren't overwhelming or even too distracting. Now I would like to get them in the form of 40 LEDs, all in black, to place them with magnets on my DJ facade when I go to the DJ, as a discreet lighting element. They also look very professional, and while, as mentioned, they're not entirely accurate volume meters, they're surprisingly accurate once the sensitivity is set correctly, which is an added, albeit unexpected, bonus feature.
