This heater does a great job of heating water. I heated 7 gallons of cold tap water to slightly warmer than shower temperature in about 25 minutes. However, the thermometer leaves a lot to be desired as it actually reads 1 degree lower than it was before the heater was submerged in water and because the instructions (like everything I've ever been told) warn against putting your hand in the container. Water while there is something else in it that is plugged into an outlet, seeing the steam rising from the container is really the only way to know when the water is hot enough.
