I took this compass with me on a short weekend trip through the countryside and although I depend on GPS my military experience usually includes a map and compass. Although the compass is not too light, it is accurate and has everything you need. It's well built and solid. I just threw it in the side pocket of my backpack. It was only really needed after we had to deviate from the trail due to a thunderstorm. While GPS is more than adequate. Nothing beats a good map and compass. I would recommend this to anyone who is like minded. You will not be disappointed.
