Review on Adaptiv Technologies TPX 2.0 Radar and Laser Detector - All-in-One Size by Christian Byrd

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Very solid product with amazing customer service.

After getting 2 fines on a bike in 3 months, I finally decided to get a radar detector. However, most of the thrones I've looked at weren't designed for living on two wheels. I finally stumbled across the TPX Radar Detector and despite some mediocre reviews I decided to give it a try and I have to say that I was completely satisfied with this product. That is, until recently, when I finally broke this thing. And now I'm VERY glad I chose the Adaptiv Radar Detector. let me explain. Several times over the year my TPX fell from where it was mounted on the bike. All user error on my part. I pair this with a ram mount, specifically the X-Grip Ram mount, and sometimes I didn't mount my TPX before riding. He fell once, twice, even three times when not plugged into an outlet, eventually sliding off the tank onto the concrete. Once while driving at low speed. For most electronics, this would disable them. But my TPX kept ticking until it crashed too many times and eventually died. I contacted Adaptiv and told them the story as it is. Without lies I told them he fell off the bike a couple of times, it's completely broken and won't start. They originally said it would cost $75 and I would be willing to pay considering it was 100% accidental damage and user error on my part. However, after a few more emails, they checked my serial number and said it was still under warranty (really? Your warranty covers user stupidity? Hooray!) and told me to send it back and that it would be fixed. is free! Brilliant! No complaints here! I saved $75! After a few weeks I received the device back and it was practically a new device. Well, as for looks. It has probably been renovated but is still amazing. Well it turns out that at some point during this time my wiring harness got wet and the ends were corroded. So I contacted customer service again and waited to be charged for a replacement wiring harness due to water damage. Once again they totally surprised me when they said it was still under warranty and they would cover a free replacement. Serious?! This level of customer service is second to none! Brilliant! Many thanks to the Adaptive team. You are damn awesome! Regarding use: the thing is quite delicate. I get alerts remotely and this has certainly saved my ass at least 3 times in the last 2 years that I know I've had. He survived all the heavy rains that hit me in both California and New York. However, I will say that this thing would be pretty much useless without the visual alerts add-on. It's barely audible at high speed on the Autobahn. Not because it's not loud... it's loud enough. It's just stiff competition when you factor in road noise, wind noise and music in your headphones. The visual warning LED is red and has a long cable so you can plug it anywhere on your bike. Mine is mounted just above the dash between the windshield and gauges. I have to adjust how I wear my helmet otherwise the LEDs wouldn't be visible, but I tend to attribute that to sitting on a sport bike and leaning quite far forward. Pros - Waterproof - Easy to install on any bike - Small size - Radar/laser sensitive - Amazing customer service - Outstanding warranty service - Large buttons for ease of use - Quick removal and replacement - Easy to read display - Combined with a visual alarm is definitely a great buy. Cons: I wish it had a way to remember locations and identify certain locations as false positives.

Cons
