Extend Internet connection over fiber optic cable without any noticeable deterioration in signal quality over long distances. Basically it is a junction box. We tried many solutions to get a stable signal in our son's room. Our house is oddly shaped, long and narrow. His room is at the opposite end of the house from our modem, which connects to several computers in our home office. As a result, he did his homework in the ear lounge, which became almost unusable for everyone else. This year we got a good router and extender that gives us full coverage, at least I thought so. My son was still complaining about the signal loss, and he was also uncomfortable with the wireless connection (felt unreliable). This box gave us the ability to establish a reliable connection with his room (as well as others) on the other end of the line. home without having to call a cable company and pay for a second connection. They would probably offer a similar solution but with an additional monthly fee. While I enjoyed losing cables, there's a lot to be said for a solid cable connection. Our wireless network works very well most of the time, but I have buffering issues when streaming video to the other end of the house. This box solves that problem for us. Wireless signals degrade with distance; fiber - no. While this is primarily intended for office/industrial applications, it's also useful for those like us who want to extend the signal for long periods of time. It provides a secure and reliable signal with no interference. The package includes power adapters but no cables. We didn't have an instruction manual. However, it is very easy to use, almost "plug and play". The assembly took about 15 minutes (but it was very easy for us). For those who need more connections, it can run on a switch. Our goal was to provide a reliable network connection to the modem at a distance where wireless communication became unreliable. The StarTech converter solved the last of our network problems.
