RULE #1: BUY A TRANSFORMER THAT HAS TRIPLE THE POWER RATE SPECIFIED ON MOST OF THIS DEVICE YOU INTEND TO USE. I mostly bought this for a 500w kotatsu my sister gave me when she was living in Japan. I decided to buy a transformer way above my Kotatsu heater to make sure it could handle the load without a lot of sweat. Since I usually keep my kotatsu at about 1/3 of max I think I overdid it a bit, but I'd rather have this thing barely work than about to explode. The downsides are that it's quite heavy, so find a comfortable spot off the road and leave it there if you can. It also emits a low hum, which is sure to bother some people. I hardly notice it when I'm watching TV or listening to music, but sometimes I notice it when I'm reading at my desk or doing some other quiet activity. Bottom line: It's not perfect, but it's already paid off in terms of heating this year. I don't know how it would work with something more powerful like a hair dryer or whatever, but for what I bought it for, it's fine.
