Review on LG 27UN850 W: Borderless DisplayHDR Monitor with Adjustable Stand, USB Hub, and High Dynamic Range by Alan Ghosh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The stand is amazing, the brightness and color are not up to professional standards, here are my Mac's calibration settings...

The stand is great, strong, very versatile and easy to move around, plus there is a channel for cable management, very nice! The display itself is great, but not very bright and absolutely NOT "calibrated" like some of the reviews I've seen. It took several attempts with different brightness/contrast settings using the advanced options in the macOS Display Calibrator app to get a usable calibration. super resolution off. Then set the display to the full resolution of 3840 x 2160 in macOS System Preferences/Display. (Hold Option while pressing "Zoom" to view the full list of permissions). Then hold Option while pressing the "Calibrate" button and enable "Expert Mode" and then continue. Don't do what they say, with max contrast and then lower the brightness, it won't work, they'll never match. My last and best calibration so far was with a brightness of 100 and a contrast of 70. Make sure your display is set to 3840 x 2160 as above by running the following five different curve response tests (with two boxes with Apple logos in them). . otherwise, separate lines of alternating black and white pixels will be distorted and not displayed. precise. For all 5 curve tests, I only adjusted the left light/dark sliders and left the color shift panel on the right. Continue with the default 2.2 gamma, then set the color temperature to 5500K. I'd also recommend (if possible) having a good test image or neutral gray tone to view side-by-side on another reliable display for comparison (e.g. Mac Retina). For reference, I also have a 24-inch LG UltraFine, an Apple-approved display. Up close you can see why this device was $100 less despite being larger and having an amazingly ergonomic stand. The 27 incher is not as bright and colorful. It's workable with the settings above, but I'll probably still do some serious color adjustments on a 24-inch Retina display or my MBP display. a significant difference but I think DisplayPort is slightly better, mouse movement seems more responsive maybe?
