We recently bought this for my brother's computer. He had a regular old hard drive that was showing its age. He decided to save money by purchasing a hybrid SSH/HDD drive. Performance is just as bad as before, if not worse. We are not sure if this particular hard drive is defective or if there is a design flaw. With defragmented NTFS partitions, the hard disk could only read in the kiB/s range. Simply opening File Explorer leaves the computer in an unusable state as it takes a few minutes to boot up. It can take more than half an hour for the computer to boot up. The PC is practically unusable. After a fresh installation of Windows, the hard drive remains just as slow. I ran diagnostic tests by booting Linux. The drive can write 1GB in a single block at over 100MB/s without caching. But when the disk writes 1 GiB in 1 MiB chunks, the performance drops below 10 MB/s (I have to cancel the process because it takes too long). This tells me that our hard drive has some kind of latency or seek problem. However, the SeaTools provided by Seagate give the hard drive a thumbs up. I would recommend spending the extra cash on an SSD. I do not recommend this hard drive.
