Some sort of spindle might have been better for the design

Aside from having to keep tightening the screws to keep the reel from falling out, the product works as is is should. I have some kind of spindle, maybe it would be better for design. For short projects with fast recording, this is expensive. It won't work as well as a "daily driver" tool with all the constant puffs that are needed. Also, if a bolt falls out, it's pretty small, so keep an eye on it. Lose it and the tool becomes useless.
