Review on πŸ”† TORCHSTAR Adjustable Recessed Downlight: The Ultimate Retrofit Solution for Industrial Electrical Systems by Mark Hanson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy installation, great light, great price.

I bought these to replace the standard ceiling lights in my wife's art studio. She wanted to control the direction of the light. My existing cans (bodies) are 6 inches wide. They were quick and easy to put in place, taking just 5 minutes to replace 6. The adapter has a threaded adapter to fit standard lamp mounts. The springs are strong and pull the lamp tight to the ceiling. The ring seals the case properly so they look good. The head swivels about 350 degrees in almost any direction and can be adjusted from straight down to about 15 degrees with respect to the ceiling. The spread of the beam is about 40 degrees, something like a wide spot or a narrow floodlight, of course depends on the distance to the wall, the farther the wider. Their light is pleasantly warm white, similar to permanent light or halogen. But since all LEDs are slightly whiter and I don't recommend mixing LEDs and incandescent or halogen bulbs in the same room, you will see the difference. Wall fill without the star pattern that sometimes accompanies halogen spotlights. I have a standard dimmer and had no problems. If you don't have a dimmer and want to add one, I recommend looking for one that's rated for LEDs. Don't buy cheap ones, they will buzz and possibly flicker. LEDs can compete with cheap dimmers due to their low power consumption, good ones provide the power needed to dim them properly. In this price range, the choice of swiveling LED heads is limited. It's a great choice and I'm very happy with it.
