I have been using these notebooks for many years. Heavyweight 65 lb paper with a nice smooth finely serrated surface for drawing with dry media such as pencil, colored pencil, pastel, conté crayon, charcoal, sanguine and possibly some ink sticks, although I have never used ink on this particular paper. Paper. NOT FOR WATERCOLOR or other liquid media. Acid-free paper minimizes yellowing over time. Media erases well on this paper (I use Pink Pearl). Strong, heavyweight double spiral binding makes page turning easier and keeps them flat. Microperf pages make it easy to remove the page if you wish to remove and frame your masterpiece (I would recommend flexing the perf before tearing to ensure it separates as intended). You can use an ultra-fine Sharpie marker with very light pressure, but it can bleed through to the back of the paper. Bold bullets or an appendix with normal letter print flow to the next page. Pencil, charcoal, and pastel smudge when the sides touch or with normal handling, so I would recommend a working fixative spray like Krylon Workable Fixatif 1306 to protect your work. I used cheap hairspray (Aqua Net) until they changed the formula and added more water which now crinkles the sides. Compared to the Strathmore 400 series sketchpads, the Canson pad has slightly heavier paper (65 pounds vs. 60 pounds) and is slightly cheaper. Happy drawing!
