These containers are called Latch and Carry because they do exactly that and they are very good. The handles have a hole to put your fingers through and a hinged part to attach the lid to. I store things in the attic and it's difficult to carry a trash can up the fold-down steps. I put a pulley with a long rope in the attic. Then I wrap the rope around one of the latch handles, carry the basket, and haul it up to the attic. My saved items will not fall out of the basket due to the latches on the handles. I prefer clear containers so I don't have to label them, but they come in solid colors too.
