Review on Acurel Budget-friendly Activated Carbon Filter Pellets for Optimized Filtration by Linda Montes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great value filter accessories

I have been buying activated carbon for 15 years. I've tried really expensive products and as far as I can tell they all do the same thing. The more expensive product is crushed into small pieces while it is in the form of granules. One day I'll try to break it down to see if it makes a difference, but I seriously doubt it will. That's a great price, I paid 3.99 per bag. I ordered 5 bags at once to save on shipping. (it was 5.99 no matter how many packs you buy) That lasts me a whole year and all for less than $30! ______________update______________Just for fun, I "blended" the packet in my wife's Kitchenaid blender. He did a pretty good job crashing all the PCs. to no more than a little more than 1/8 inch. This creates about 10% waste as some of it turns into dust (no more than 5 seconds). I've experimented with this in several tanks and as far as I can tell it makes the charcoal more effective or more specifically more aggressive at removing discoloration or odors. So I'll keep playing with this, but the smaller broken bits seem best for emergency cleaning if you wait too long between water or a filter. I'd also venture to say that because the smaller particles act faster, they're likely to "fill up" or deplete their cleaning power much quicker. Sellers on Revain ship at a fixed price and some ship on an item basis. When I buy multiple items, I add one item from each seller to my cart and then see which one offers the best value for money. Last time I bought them from the cheapest seller it was under $4 with flat rate $7 shipping, at that price I bought the annual cost. It's a bit of a headache, but if you're buying more than one it's worth it if you save a few bucks.
